Brow Tattoo Removal on Melanated Skin: What One Session Really Looks Like

A real, consented removal · by Mia Smalls, Licensed Master Esthetician

Removing old permanent makeup on deep skin tones is where a lot of people get hurt, because the wrong laser settings on melanated skin can cause lightening or burns. So instead of promising you a miracle, I want to show you a real removal I did here in the studio, with this client's permission, so you can see honestly what one session looks like and why going gradually matters most on brown and Black skin.

Being honest with you: after one session you can already see the pigment lift and soften. But brows that were tattooed five years ago are not fully cleared in a single visit, and on melanated skin we intentionally go slower and space sessions further apart to protect your skin. Full, clean removal takes several sessions. Anyone telling you it is one-and-done is not being straight with you.

A Look at the Session

Why Melanated Skin Needs a Different Approach

On deeper skin tones, the pigment in your skin can absorb laser energy along with the tattoo ink. Push too hard or use the wrong wavelength, and you risk lightening the skin (hypopigmentation) or burning it. That is exactly why so many people are told "no one will touch my brows."

We work conservatively, usually at 1064 nm, keep the energy controlled, and space your sessions further apart so the skin has time to recover between visits. It takes a little more patience, and it is the only responsible way to remove tattoo pigment on brown and Black skin. The result is a clean removal without trading your brows for a patch of lighter or damaged skin.

What to Expect

Each session is quick, with some temporary redness afterward and no real downtime. You will heal over the next few weeks while your body clears the broken-down pigment, and the brows look lighter each round. Because this client's brows are deep and five years old, she is on a multi-session plan so we finish the removal safely and completely.

Common Questions

Is brow tattoo removal safe on dark skin?

Yes, when it is done carefully. On melanated skin we work conservatively (usually 1064 nm) and space sessions further apart to protect the skin from lightening or burns. We assess your skin first and go gradually.

How many sessions will it take?

Usually several, spaced a few weeks apart. One session lifts and breaks up the pigment, but old, deep permanent makeup is not fully cleared in one visit, and on dark skin we go slower on purpose.

Can you remove microblading, ombre, or powder brows?

Yes. We remove microblading, ombre, powder, and older solid PMU, lightening it over a series of sessions so you can go bare or start fresh.

Does it hurt?

There is some discomfort, like a quick warm snap, but the brow area is small and each pass is fast. No downtime beyond temporary redness.

What does it cost?

Because removal is done over several sessions, we start with a consultation and build a removal plan or package. Book online or call (404) 955-0322.
