What Is a Lash Lift?
A lash lift is essentially a perm for your natural lashes. A silicone rod is placed on your lid, your lashes are adhered to it, and a lifting solution is applied to reshape the lash from root to tip. The result is a curl that opens up the eye and makes your existing lashes look longer and more defined.
A tint is usually added at the same time — a deep brown or black dye applied to the lashes for extra color and contrast. Together, lash lift and tint give you results similar to wearing mascara and a lash curler, but it lasts for 6–8 weeks.
What you walk out with is entirely your own lashes — just lifted, darkened, and curled.
What Are Lash Extensions?
Lash extensions are synthetic fibers applied individually to each natural lash using a semi-permanent adhesive. They add length, curl, and volume beyond what your natural lashes can do on their own. Extensions are customizable — the length, thickness, curl, and finish can all be adjusted based on your eye shape and the look you want.
Results last 3–4 weeks before a fill is needed, as the extensions shed with your natural lashes.
Side-by-Side Comparison
| Lash Lift | Lash Extensions | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | One appointment every 6–8 weeks — lower ongoing cost | Fills every 2–3 weeks — higher ongoing investment |
| Maintenance | Almost none after 24hr water-free window | Oil-free products, gentle cleansing, regular fills |
| Results | Natural enhancement of your existing lashes | Dramatic length, volume, and fullness |
| Sensitivity | No adhesive — great for sensitive eyes | Adhesive used — some clients experience irritation |
| Active Lifestyle | Swim, sweat, travel — no restrictions after 24hrs | Works well but requires more aftercare attention |
So Which One Should You Get?
Get a Lash Lift if…
- Your natural lashes are decent but straight or downward-pointing
- You want a low-maintenance, natural look
- You're new to lash services
- You have sensitive eyes or have reacted to lash glue
- Your budget doesn't fit fills every 2–3 weeks
Get Extensions if…
- You want more length or volume than your natural lashes can give
- You're comfortable with a regular fill schedule
- You want to wake up with full lashes and skip eye makeup
- You're going for a more dramatic or polished look
- You've done a lift before and want the next level
Not sure? Book a consultation and we'll look at your natural lashes, talk through your lifestyle and goals, and recommend the right fit — no pressure either way.
Can You Do Both?
Not at the same time — a lash lift on lashes that have extensions on them isn't safe or effective. But some clients cycle between the two: extensions for a period (like before a big event), then a break to let natural lashes recover, then back to a lift for a few months.
