What "Permanent Makeup" Actually Covers
Permanent makeup (PMU) is an umbrella term for a handful of different treatments, and they're not interchangeable:
- Brows — nano brows or ombré/powder brows, either hair-stroke or soft shading depending on the look you want
- Lip blush — a wash of color and definition added to the lips, softer than lipstick but enough to even out tone and add shape
- Eyeliner — a defined line along the lash line, from a subtle lash enhancement to a fuller winged look
Each of these uses pigment placed just beneath the skin's surface, and each heals and fades differently, which is why a real consultation matters more than a quick menu pick.
Brows: Ombré vs. Hair-Stroke
Ombré/powder brows use a shading technique that builds soft, gradient color — lighter at the front of the brow, deeper toward the tail. It reads more like filled-in makeup and tends to hold up better long-term on oily skin.
Hair-stroke techniques (nano brows or microblading) mimic individual hairs for a more natural, undetectable look. Better suited to drier or normal skin types.
Some clients combine the two — a hybrid brow — for definition with a soft, natural finish.
Lip Blush: What It Actually Does
Lip blush isn't about dramatically changing your lip shape. It's about restoring color and symmetry that fades with age or sun exposure, and adding a soft tint that looks like your lips, just more defined. Healing takes about 4–6 weeks to reach true color, and lips typically go through a noticeably lighter, sometimes patchy phase in the middle of healing — that's normal, not a sign anything went wrong.
Healing Timeline, Realistically
All PMU services follow a similar arc: bold and oversaturated for the first several days, followed by scabbing or light flaking, then a "ghost phase" where color looks faded, before the true healed result settles in around week 4–6. A touch-up appointment at that point is standard and expected — not a sign the first session didn't work.
What to Look for in a Vinings-Area Studio
Georgia licensing, confirmed — not assumed. Ask directly.
A real consultation before booking — your artist should assess your skin type, existing brow/lip shape, and any scarring or previous PMU work before recommending a technique.
Healed photos on request. A studio confident in its work will have no problem showing 6-week healed results, not just fresh ones.
Clear aftercare instructions in writing — verbal advice gets forgotten. You should leave with something you can reference for the next two weeks.
Right in the neighborhood: the studio sits in the Cumberland/Vinings corridor near The Battery — easy from Smyrna, Buckhead, and Marietta, without the downtown drive.
